That's right, curling season is right around the corner! Most clubs are gearing up, finishing the final jobs from the summer and ready for new ice. The valley is no exception, I have not heard from all the clubs but as I do Ill fill you in on their summer projects and opening dates. As for the valley provincial representative, Edie Lloyd has kindly offered to join up! She is eager to help the valley clubs and keep the lines of communication open. (I kinda jumped the gun, because she must be voted in at the annual meeting the end of Sept. I feel she is a "done deal".) Edie's number and email will be out after the election.
Greenwood club is still hoping for the "new" hockey, curling club in the upcoming years. A working committee is in phase 2 of the planning. Greenwood is also hosting a level 2 ice makers course Sept. 25 - 26th. This will get the ice started for the year. They are also planning the mixed Aurora bonspiel the end of October 29th - 31st. You will make it home for the trick or treaters. Come on down or up, for more info call Hazel McEwan 902 765 6177. Hazel knows everything! Wow, this club is starting with a bang as it is also hosting the first qualifier for the ladies Scotties Dec. 10th -12th. They are inviting everyone to come and watch. The word on the street is lots of new and old ladies teams, all wanting to be number one.
Glooscap has been buzzing this summer with having a new floor installed as well as a new Low Emissivity ceiling. Painting begins on Sept. 13th to have the ice shed interior painted tan and navy: just think of a navy blazer with cotton chinos, with the navy being the accent colour. The ice rings will be painted Olympic Green and Royal blue, heralding change, youthfulness and new energy! The annual Dinner Theatre in coordination with Centre Stage on Sept. 10th and 11th will play "Temperance in a Teacup", a delicious four course meal and silent auction. This is our premier fundraising event of the year, and on the heels of our plant, yard and bake sale in May and our Lobster dinner in June. The membership campaign will soon be beginning with setting up a kiosk at our local farm market in late September. The membership team has been really effective in attracting new members (50 last year) with their presence at the market over several weeks leading up to our opening season. The official opening for the new floor in October, with the unconfirmed dates of Oct. 22,23,24. A reception of the Friday night and a two day spiel on the Sat. Sun. Should be fun. The new president is Barb Leith. Good luck Barb and keep the news coming! Glooscap will host their ladies Holly spiel, (I think, Nov. 26th weekend, watch for posters) They are also helping the provincial this year by hosting the provincial ladies Scotties the last week of January. I know you will all want to come, especially to see the "new face lift".
